The Falconets of Nigeria take on the high-scoring Asian titans of Japan in the U20 Women World Cup quarterfinal match.

Nigeria’s Falconets will play a fierce team from Japan in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 this Thursday in Medellin, Colombia. It promises to be an intense match, according to Soccernet.ng. Japan is one of the most dominant teams in the tournament going into this matchup. They swept through Group E with a perfect record, scoring 13 goals and giving up just one. They dominated the opposition 7-0 against New Zealand, 4-1 against Ghana, and easily 2-0 against Austria, among other impressive displays.

In contrast, the Falconets qualified for the knockout stages by placing second in Group D. With six goals scored and three conceded, the Nigerian girls finished with six points from their three games. The Falconets’ decisive 4-0 triumph over Venezuela in their last group game was essential to their advancement to the Round of 16.

The team led by coach Christopher Danjuma demonstrated their strength in that match thanks to goals from Joy Igbokwe, Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Flourish Sebastine.

“In the last game, the females gave it their all. We are prepared, even though we know Japan will be a formidable foe,” Danjuma remarked following the match. Even though the Falconets have a difficult challenge ahead of them, they are confident in their ability to outperform the dominant Japanese team. If they win, they will play Canada or Spain in the quarterfinals. The fight is scheduled for September 13.
