Greg Halford, a former Wolves defender, signed a contract with another non-league team to extend his playing career.
Halford signed with Blyth Spartans after playing for Molineux from 2009 to 2011. David Stockdale, a former goalkeeper for Birmingham City, has assumed interim leadership at Croft Park after Nolberto Solano, a former midfield player for Aston Villa, left.
Halford started his career at Colchester United in 2002 and is currently with Blyth Spartans, his 21st club. In the seventh division of English football, the Northumberland is currently ranked second from bottom in the Northern Premier League Division.
He stated, “I’m really excited to be here and back up in the North-East, it has been a while,” in a statement to the club’s official website.
Halford played for the social media sensation Hashtag United for the previous two seasons, helping the team advance in April 2023. He left professional football in 2021 to play for Waterford of the League of Ireland.
During the same campaign, Halford spent time at Billericay Town in the National League South. Interim manager David Stockdale said of him upon his arrival: “He’s a good, experienced utility player, who has played everywhere over his career.”
“I’m thrilled that he agreed to join us. He’s all about bringing in people who understand the game and helping the young lads through.” Sheffield United, Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham United, Birmingham City, Cardiff, and Aberdeen are the other teams Halford can list on his resume.
He played a part in Cardiff’s promotion to the Premier League in 2017–18 by helping them place second in the Championship.
He joined Wolves in 2009 from Sunderland and played in 20 games. He was loaned out to Portsmouth for the season four games into the 2010–11 campaign, and he would eventually secure a permanent deal with them.
