Rob Refsnyder of the Boston Red Sox leaves the game early due to a hamstring injury.

Another blow to the ailing lineup of the Boston Red Sox came when Rob Refsnyder left Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins due to hamstring soreness.

The Boston Red Sox stated that outfielder Rob Refsnyder left Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins due to stiffness in his left hamstring.

In the fifth inning, manager Alex Cora sent Refsnyder to the bench and substituted David Hamilton in the lineup. Ceddanna Rafaela moved to center field, Jarren Duran moved from center to left, and Hamilton entered the game to play shortstop.

But Refsnyder did his share before leaving, tying the score at one through an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning. He went 1-for-2 to end the day, giving him a.351 batting average and 1.089 OPS for the season.

After the game, Cora discussed Refsnyder’s situation with reporters. He refrained from being overly optimistic, even though he stated that nothing seemed especially worrisome at the time.

Cora reported, “He’s doing OK.” It seemed to him that he would simply emerge at that point in order to escape something more significant. Though the way things are going here, you never know. It doesn’t seem like an IL issue.”

During Spring Training, the 33-year-old outfielder was struck by a pitch, breaking his pinky toe, which caused him to miss the following month of play.

Refsnyder was placed on the 10-day disabled list to begin the regular season, but he returned to the Red Sox on April 18 after a brief rehab stint.

Refsnyder has established a far more reliable role in Boston’s lineup than was first anticipated in the two weeks that have passed. Before 2024, Refsnyder made 378 MLB appearances, batting.244 with a.678 OPS in those games.

Refsnyder has already produced considerably more than that in the early goings of this season, so his departure would be a further setback to an already struggling Red Sox lineup.

First baseman Triston Casas and shortstop Trevor Story will be sidelined for at least the All-Star break, if not longer, and outfielder Masataka Yoshida is also sidelined due to a sprained thumb.

Finally coming off the injured list, second baseman Vaughn Grissom will make his season debut on Friday against the Twins. Boston will be off on Monday before beginning a two-game road series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

This provides Refsnyder and the Red Sox training staff with around 48 hours to ensure that his hamstring heals completely.
