Rangers: Following Celtic’s loss to Hearts, Chris Sutton admits to a “funny” title race.

After Brendan Rodgers’ team lost to Hearts for the third time this season, Rangers and Celtic found themselves in a “funny old title race,” according to Chris Sutton.

After losing 2-1 to Motherwell on Saturday, March 2, Philippe Clement’s Light Blues lost their opportunity to increase their lead atop the Premiership standings, and on Sunday, March 3, Celtic wasted the opportunity to surpass the Gers at Tynecastle.

Rangers leads the table after 29 games, but only by a single point following one of the most peculiar Premiership weekends in recent memory, according to the weekend’s results.

Sutton wrote on X on Sunday, March 3, stating: “Over the weekend, there was a humorous title race. Bravo, Hearts. Although I strongly dislike the Yang red card, I can see why it was handed.

“Iwata handball is so harsh, but it would have been awarded because of his arm’s position. He was nudged, so it’s not surprising that this happened in Scotland.”

It was surprising that neither Rangers nor Celtic would give up this weekend, but the title fight has also been on pause lately because neither Glasgow team has been able to capitalize on the other’s weaknesses.

Despite Rangers’ lackluster performance against Motherwell on Saturday, their sloppiness went unpunished when the Hoops performed similarly poorly at Tynecastle on Sunday.

The mistake made this past weekend must be seen by Clement and his team as a lucky break, and they must return to winning ways as soon as possible. Even if their Europa League matchup with Benfica won’t be simple, a loss will make things less festive at Ibrox.

From now until the end of the season, hopefully, they can capitalize on Celtic’s most recent error and hold the top spot in the table, but there will definitely be more turns and turns in this fight for the championship.
