Verified: Before the Middlesbrough game, a Sunderland player strikes Régis Le Bris with a devastating punch.

Prior to Monday’s Championship matchup against Middlesbrough, Sunderland appears to be losing coach Mike Dodds. Dodds was named Wycombe Wanderers’ manager today.

On Saturday night, The Echo revealed that the former Birmingham City player was on the verge of accepting the League One position. But before Sunderland’s Championship match against Middlesbrough on Monday, Dodds’ departure was officially announced on Sunday.

It's time for Regis Le Bris to use 'absolute quality' Sunderland ace from the start vs Middlesbrough

Since Matt Bloomfield left to join Luton Town in mid-January, Wycombe has been looking for a new head coach. Dodds became the clear favorite for the position, and it has now been confirmed that he is leaving Sunderland.

Although Dodds has played a significant part in Sunderland’s first-team coaching structure recently, he has stated that he hopes to eventually become a manager. During his tenure at Wearside, Dodds served as temporary manager three times. With four points separating them from third place in League One, Wycombe is now in second place. Under their new ownership, they have big goals and a good possibility of getting promoted to the Championship the following season.

Earlier this season, Sunderland made a move to bolster their coaching staff by adding Pedro Ribeiro to Dodds’ team as assistant head coach. The current first-team coaching staff, which could need to be strengthened if Dodds does leave as is now anticipated, is completed by Mike Proctor and goalkeeping coach Alessandro Barcherini.
