Awarded As The Best Head Coach Ever

Ď„HOUSTON: Head coach Josh Heupel won the Bear Bryant Awards Coach of the Week award after leading fifth-ranked Tennessee to a 4-0 start for the second time in three seasons after the Volunteers defeated then-No. 15 Oklahoma 25-15.

Heupel improved to 31-12 overall (.721) in his four seasons on Rocky Top, defeating his alma mater, Tennessee, for his tenth ranked victory. In his last 33 games, he has won 26 of them. With two victories over opponents who were ranked in the AP Top 25 at the time of the game, the Vols are one of just two teams in the country.

In addition to recording three interceptions, eleven tackles for loss, and three sacks, Heupel’s team held the Sooners to 222 yards of total offence. With just 36 yards on the ground, Oklahoma recorded its lowest number of rushing yards in a game since gaining 15 against Notre Dame on October 27, 2012.

Running back Dylan Sampson contributed 92 yards and a touchdown to Tennessee’s 345 total offensive yards. Max Gilbert scored three field goals to help the Vols defeat a top-15 team by a margin of 10 on the road, their biggest since defeating No. 10 Georgia 51-33 at Athens on October 7, 2006.
