Andy Thompson made an impression on one “neat and tidy” Wolves player during Newcastle’s defeat.

Andy Thompson thought Tommy Doyle stood out for Wolves during their 3-0 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.

Even though Wolves ended up down three goals, their performance wasn’t as awful as the result indicates.

Alex Isak scored the first goal for Newcastle thanks to a deflection, and Anthony Gordon scored the second goal after Max Kilman mishandled the ball and Jose Sa attempted to clear it.

Newcastle seized their chances when they presented themselves, and Wolves produced chances but were unable to execute them.

Even though Wolves lost 3-0, Thompson expressed his admiration for Tommy Doyle’s play in midfield following the game.

Doyle started Wednesday for the second straight game, but instead of starting in a trio, he was paired alongside Mario Lemina.

This was due to Joao Gomes not being deemed fit to play after leaving the game against Brighton, which Doyle was selected player of the match for.

Doyle often gives a respectable performance whenever he plays for Wolves this season, and yesterday was no exception.

He completed 88/99 passes (89% accuracy), according to Sofascore data, and with 105 touches, he was the most involved player of the game.

Thompson complimented Doyle during his appearance on Matchday Live Extra, saying: “To touch on what Doyle did, I thought Doyle did really well today.” He didn’t drop the ball, in my opinion, and he was tidy. It wasn’t very substantial, in my opinion. We were more than equal to Newcastle, in my opinion; they simply had more luck in front of goal.

Doyle put on another strong performance; his loan stint left him quite impressed.

Even though he doesn’t start every game, the star gives Wolves greater control in the midfield when he does play, which makes him a good foil for Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina’s greater mobility.

With the loss of Ruben Neves in the summer, it was crucial to add a player with his caliber of playmaking from deep.

Doyle is available to Wolves this Summer from Manchester City for about £5 million, and it is hard to imagine the team choosing not to take that offer.
