Gary McAllister admits a new Ibrox title in a recent Celtic ruling.

Former Rangers assistant Gary McAllister has acknowledged that winning the Premiership will be the only metric used to evaluate the Gers’ success this year.

After winning the Viaplay Cup earlier in the season, Philippe Clement’s team defeated Hearts 2-0 at Hampden Park on Sunday, April 21, to secure their spot in the Scottish Cup final. Cyriel Dessers scored twice in the game.

With five league games remaining, the Light Blues trail the Hoops by three points. However, former Ibrox assistant McAllister thinks winning a cup double this season won’t be enough to be deemed a success. “I think the barometer is always the league.

Winning trophies is really difficult even for the big clubs, so when you win a trophy it’s always a good thing,” he remarked in an interview with Sky Sports Scotland on April 22. However, I believe that league titles are the only criterion by which the great clubs are evaluated.

Something about coming out on top in a league is just different. I have a sneaking suspicion that the owners, staff, players, and manager will all continue to strive to win the league.

It simply reminds me of the time that Steven, the team, and I traveled up from the south of the border. We had some leeway since we were much behind Celtic, but winning that league was crucial. Although we didn’t really do well in the cups, winning the title was a major accomplishment.

This season, will Rangers and Philippe Clement defeat Celtic to win the Scottish Premiership? After their dismal start to the season under Michael Beale, most fans had already accepted that they weren’t even in the running for the title when Clement came at Ibrox earlier in the season.

However, the Light Blues have improved their play under the Belgian, and they are now back within striking distance at the top of the league. Even if the Hoops have witnessed a recent uptick in results, nothing is finalized yet.

The majority of experts believe Rangers will draw blanks at Parkhead and cede the championship to Celtic, but if the Gers manage to secure all three points, they will reclaim the Premiership.

To add to his collection of trophies in Glasgow, Clement should at least be able to lift the Scottish Cup at Hampden. Considering the shape the team was in when he arrived, two silverware awards in his first full season will be considered rather impressive.
