Brighton are reportedly willing to discuss a transfer deal for Matt O’Riley.
Brighton are reportedly open to offers for midfielder Matt O’Riley during the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old joined the Premier League club from Celtic last summer in a deal worth around £25 million. However, he has struggled to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup. O’Riley featured in 21 league matches last season but missed the first 10 games due to injury.
Now, the Denmark international has been linked with a move to Serie A, with Roma expressing renewed interest. According to Il Messaggero, Roma had previously tried to sign O’Riley before his move to Brighton and new manager Gian Piero Gasperini remains keen on bringing him in.
Brighton reportedly no longer see O’Riley as a key part of their plans for the upcoming season and are open to discussing a potential deal. Roma are said to be optimistic about securing the midfielder’s signature.
O’Riley recently spoke out about his current role under Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, admitting he isn’t entirely satisfied with his position on the pitch.
“I am not completely happy, and I am just giving my opinion,” he said.
“It makes it difficult to show off when you play a position you are not completely happy with. I can play better for the team if I play the number 8 position, but I can play well in other positions.”
He added that honesty with the coach is important, even if it leads to disagreements.
