West Ham’s defensive struggles last season were evident, with little improvement despite the arrivals of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Hammers conceded 62 goals during the 2024/25 campaign, revealing ongoing issues at the back regardless of the defensive lineup.
A new report from *The Athletic* sheds light on Todibo’s fitness problems, confirming suspicions that the French defender struggled with a long-term calf issue. He missed several key fixtures and was often substituted early, with a January visit to his longtime doctor in France revealing lower limb concerns.
Todibo himself admitted he wasn’t fully ready for the physical demands of English football:
“It took me a bit of time to come back well. The game is more intense in the Premier League than in Ligue 1… Today I’m not 100%, but I think I’m going to improve with time and have a good impact on the team.”
With a full pre-season ahead, hopes are high that Todibo will return stronger, form a reliable partnership with Kilman, and deliver the consistent performances West Ham need in defence.
