Following a season in which Newcastle United won their first domestic trophy in seven decades, this was given out. United later qualified for the Champions League by placing in the top five in the Premier League.
The League Managers Association is happy to announce that Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, has won the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy for LMA Manager of the Year. Following a panel vote, Slot was also named the Premier League Manager of the Year, sponsored by Barclays, after leading Liverpool to their first Premier League title in five years in his first season as manager, making him just the fifth manager in league history to do so. The coveted award was chosen by the entire LMA membership and presented at the 33rd Annual Awards Ceremony held Tuesday evening at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London.
Richard Bevan OBE, the CEO of LMA, stated:
The Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy for LMA Manager of the Year and the Premier League Manager of the Year award will be given to Liverpool manager Arne Slot at a later date in recognition of the outstanding role he played in leading his team to the Premier League title in an amazing debut season in English football.
Other honors given out that evening included Chris Davies, the manager of Birmingham City, who won the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Year award after his championship-winning first season as manager, and Daniel Farke, who won the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Year award after Leeds United was promoted back to the Premier League. Doncaster Rovers’ Grant McCann won the Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Year award despite promising third-tier football the following season. After leading Chelsea Women to the WSL championship, Sonia Bompastor was named the Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Year.
Bompastor was joined in accepting the LMA John Duncan Award by Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Eddie Howe (Newcastle United), Ange Postecoglou (Tottenham Hotspur), and Renée Slegers (Arsenal Women). The LMA honors individuals who have accomplished noteworthy and historic accomplishments for their clubs by presenting the John Duncan Awards. Howe was recognized for winning the Carabao League Cup and Newcastle’s first major trophy in seven decades, Glasner for leading Palace to their first major trophy and their first foray into European football by winning the Emirates FA Cup, and Bompastor for winning the domestic treble with Chelsea Women in her first season as manager.
Slegers oversaw Arsenal Women’s victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, while Postecoglou received recognition for his victory in the UEFA Europa League earlier this month.
