This season, several contract extensions have been negotiated behind the scenes at St. James’ Park.
We’ll have to wait and see if Alexander Isak signs a new, better contract this summer, but one hero from our 2025–2026 campaign appears to be getting rewarded. The club appears to have everything in order, from the public confirmation that Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka are extending to the more subtle revelations that players like Sean Longstaff and Jamaal Lascelles are actually under contract until 2026.
Wembley hero set for reward
Dan Burn’s incredible season at Newcastle United appears to be set to get much better.
According to The Mail, the club and the giant center-back have now “agreed terms” on a contract extension, rewarding the 33-year-old for an exceptional season and retaining him at St. James’ Park past the end of 2025–2026. Burn’s contract expires in a year, but it appears the team wants to sign him now to make sure the big Blyth player stays for at least two more seasons.
Burn boost but three miss out
When the Three Lions roster for the friendlies next month was revealed on Friday, the 6′ 7″ Geordie—who was called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England team for the first time two months ago—was once again included.
Along with Burn, Anthony Gordon, James Trafford, a summer target, and former Toon attacker Ivan Toney, Tino Livramento, Nick Pope, and Jacob Murphy were left off the roster.
