Newcastle United spent much of last summer’s transfer window pursuing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The long-running transfer saga between Newcastle United and Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi dragged on for months, only for Newcastle to walk away empty-handed. Despite reportedly offering over £70 million—a claim the club denied—Palace never intended to sell, and Newcastle wasted valuable time chasing a deal that was never going to happen.
Surprisingly, some reports suggest Newcastle are still interested in Guehi this summer. His strong performances, including two goals against Newcastle, may have reignited their interest. However, they’re not alone—Chelsea are also in the mix, which feels inevitable given Guehi’s profile.
That said, Guehi’s form hasn’t exactly made Newcastle fans regret missing out, and there doesn’t seem to be widespread excitement about the club’s continued pursuit.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, a move to Chelsea remains the more likely outcome. He told Geordie Boot Boys that Newcastle are exploring several options and their budget will depend on Champions League qualification.
Bailey also mentioned that Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande is still a strong candidate for Newcastle. He’s been on their radar before and reportedly ticks all the right boxes.
