Brighton & Hove Albion coach Fabian Hurzeler has given an optimistic injury update on Kaoru Mitoma ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Kaoru Mitoma picked up a heel injury during Brighton’s 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace two weeks ago, causing him to miss the 2-2 draw with Leicester City last weekend. Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler provided an update, stating that Mitoma’s injury was primarily a pain issue, and his availability would depend on how quickly he could manage the discomfort. Hurzeler emphasized the importance of monitoring the situation daily.
Mitoma was seen at the Amex Stadium during the Leicester match but was limping slightly as he walked through the tunnel at halftime. Despite this, Hurzeler confirmed that Mitoma is available for selection this weekend and will be joined by Jan Paul van Hecke, who missed the Leicester match due to a one-match ban.
In addition to Mitoma and van Hecke, Hurzeler shared positive updates on the recovery of other players. Ferdi Kadioglu and James Milner, who had been sidelined with toe and hamstring injuries respectively, could also make a return before the end of the season. Hurzeler noted that several players are in the final stages of rehabilitation and will start training next week.
Defensive players Igor Julio, Tariq Lamptey, and Joel Veltman are still recovering but will miss Saturday’s match against Brentford, along with Georginio Rutter, Jason Steele, and Adam Webster.
Looking ahead to the remaining matches, Hurzeler emphasized that Brighton has six crucial games left in the season. He stressed the importance of taking each game step by step, especially with the team’s sights set on European qualification. Hurzeler acknowledged Brentford’s strength but expressed confidence that Brighton could achieve a good result if they perform at their highest level.
