Everton open talks with 1.91 metre tall Bundesliga midfield talent over summer transfer.

David Moyes’ Everton have reportedly asked about SC Freiburg midfield star Merlin Röhl’s availability.

Everton have expressed interest in signing SC Freiburg’s midfield talent Merlin Röhl and have already opened discussions with the player’s representatives, according to German outlet Kicker. The Toffees are exploring a potential summer move for the 22-year-old, who has drawn attention despite recent injury setbacks.

Röhl joined Freiburg in 2022 after making a name for himself in the German youth system. Although he started well, his progress has been disrupted by a torn syndesmosis earlier this season, followed by a heel injury. Nevertheless, his versatility and potential continue to attract interest, with Everton seeing him as a valuable addition who can play both centrally and on the flanks.

David Moyes is leading the charge for Röhl’s signature. The Everton boss was particularly impressed with the German’s impact during a Europa League group stage match in London back in December 2023. Röhl came off the bench and added spark to Freiburg’s attack, leaving a lasting impression on Moyes.

However, Everton face a tough task in signing him. Röhl signed a new contract with Freiburg last summer, and the club’s sporting director Jochen Saier is unlikely to sanction a sale unless they receive a fee exceeding the €25 million Brentford paid for Kevin Schade. Still, Moyes is determined, and Everton have already taken the first steps toward bringing the 1.91m midfielder to Merseyside.
