West Ham secure the signing of a promising young talent.
West Ham have won the race to sign a promising young talent, beating several clubs across the UK and Europe. With a busy summer ahead, the club is already making moves to shape the squad according to Graham Potter’s vision.
Potter has faced challenges in getting the best out of his inherited squad, which was built around Julen Lopetegui’s plans. Since Lopetegui also struggled with the team, changes this summer seem inevitable. However, West Ham are not just focusing on big-money signings—they are also investing in young prospects who could become key players in the future.
As part of this strategy, the Hammers have secured the signing of 16-year-old Joel Kerr from Glentoran. The Northern Irish club confirmed the move in a statement, highlighting Kerr’s long-term contract with West Ham until 2028. The talented winger, who has represented Northern Ireland at the U17 level, attracted interest from multiple top clubs before choosing the Premier League side.
Kerr is known for his exceptional technical ability, combining pace, power, and football intelligence. He has played across the front line as a winger, striker, or attacking midfielder while also featuring as a left-back for Glentoran’s Reserves. His leadership qualities were evident as he captained Glentoran’s U14 and U16 sides to league titles and starred in international youth tournaments.
Glentoran’s academy manager, Michael Jackson, praised Kerr’s dedication and leadership, stating that he has earned this opportunity through hard work and high standards. His influence on younger players and his drive to succeed have set him apart as a top prospect.
It remains to be seen whether Kerr will join West Ham’s first team or development squad, but his age suggests he will start with the latter unless he impresses during pre-season.
