After confirming the signing of Antonio Cordero, Newcastle United have reportedly opened talks to land another key target admired by Eddie Howe — Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford — in a deal worth £30 million.
Cordero Joins from Malaga
Cordero, a young Spanish winger, will officially join Newcastle on July 1 after his contract with Malaga expires. Sporting director Paul Mitchell, in one of his final acts at the club, praised Cordero’s potential and noted that a development loan move is already being planned.
Eyes Still on Reinforcements
Newcastle, backed by PIF, are not stopping there. With Bryan Mbeumo linked to Manchester United, the Magpies are exploring options such as Anthony Elanga and Joao Pedro. Elanga, a previous target, is now back on the radar with Newcastle reportedly making an enquiry to Nottingham Forest.
Trafford Talks Resumed
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are now in talks with Burnley to sign James Trafford for £30m. Howe has long admired the England international and sees him as direct competition for current No.1 Nick Pope, who has struggled with injuries.
Newcastle had agreed personal terms with Trafford last summer but couldn’t finalize a deal with Burnley. With fresh negotiations underway, the Magpies could soon secure the “world-class” talent, as described by Burnley boss Scott Parker, potentially putting pressure on Pope’s starting spot.
