Six players will be departing Newcastle United’s academy this month when their contracts expire, the club has confirmed. Additionally, some people have already posted a parting message on social media.
Jamal Lewis is now the sole player dismissed from the Magpies’ first-team retained list, which was issued on Friday afternoon. John Ruddy and Callum Wilson’s contracts expire on June 30th, although they may stay while negotiations for a potential new agreement continue.
Mark Gillespie, the fifth-choice goalie, has signed a one-year contract extension, and Lloyd Kelly’s loan to Juventus has become permanent when the center-back met the requirements to sign a £20 million contract.
Following the news, a farewell message is sent by the Newcastle United pair.
A few hours later, Newcastle also revealed their academy retained list, announcing that Josh Donaldson, James Huntley, Ellis Stanton, twin brothers Harry and Rory Powell, and Jay Turner-Cooke would be released. Two players have said goodbye on Instagram in the days following the announcement. In January 2021, Turner-Cooke moved from Tyne-Wear rivals Sunderland to the Magpies. He participated in a few first-team friendlies, including one away to Gateshead when he scored to help the club win 3-2. The 21-year-old midfielder failed to leave a lasting impact during his loan stints at Tranmere Rovers and St Johnstone.

Being benched for the 1-1 Champions League tie away to Paris Saint-Germain in December 2023 stands out as the 21-year-old’s most memorable moment.

Steve Harper remarks on the departures from Newcastle United’s academy
Academy director Steve Harper made the following statement in response to the academy’s departures: “I would want to express my appreciation to all of the players who are leaving the Academy. Their dedication throughout their time at Newcastle United is reflected in their growth and commitment as individuals and as football players. “They should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished because they have been a credit to the club, their families, and themselves.
