Brighton’s record signing opens up about his debut season.
Georginio Rutter Reflects on First Brighton Season
Georginio Rutter says his time at Leeds United helped prepare him for life in the Premier League following his £40m move to Brighton. Despite an ankle injury late in the campaign, the Frenchman enjoyed a solid debut season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
Rutter credited the pressure at Leeds with shaping his mentality, saying the expectations there made him stronger and more prepared for the top flight. “When you play for Leeds, there is a big pressure to win every game… it helped me a lot,” he told Brighton’s website.
He also highlighted the positive impact of playing alongside veteran striker Danny Welbeck, praising his work ethic, experience, and support on and off the pitch.
Looking ahead, Rutter acknowledged he still has much to learn. Under the guidance of head coach Fabian Hurzeler, he’s working hard to improve tactically and refine both his attacking and defensive contributions.
Rutter joined Brighton in 2024 after previously moving to Leeds from Hoffenheim in 2023, where he tallied eight goals and 18 assists in 66 games.
