The gifted 22-year-old forward for Manchester City has informed Newcastle United that he may leave the team this summer, putting them on notice.

Because Manchester City’s academy produces so many talented players, there isn’t enough room in the team to retain them. As a result, youngsters like Liam Delap and Cole Palmer have left and gone on to become well-known elsewhere.

James McAtee is the most recent elite talent to leave the Etihad’s production line. Despite being a huge admirer of McAtee, the 22-year-old offensive midfielder has played for Pep Guardiola on multiple occasions. According to reports, the Spanish coach has told McAtee that he is free to quit the team this summer. This is probably welcome news for Newcastle, who have had a long-standing interest in McAtee. The issue, though, is that Eddie Howe does not currently consider McAtee to be a priority.

Newcastle is interested in the £20 million midfield player, therefore James McAtee has been informed he may find a new club.

As stated by The Chronicle, McAtee has dropped down the pecking order at Man City and, as such, has been told he can find a new club, and would expect to cost £20 million. Although McAtee can and has played down the right side, which may make him more marketable, Newcastle is eager but currently lacks the space and need for an offensive midfielder. But if we wanted to be a little more inventive, Newcastle might be able to find a new team for Joe Willock, who has repeatedly failed to live up to expectations, and we anticipate Sean Longstaff leaving the team this summer.

On this one, it doesn’t seem like the stars are aligning.

Even though we still have Lewis Miley, if both Willock and Longstaff leave, there will be room for McAtee. At 22, he could be a fantastic addition to Newcastle, but it seems unlikely that he would leave Man City to come and warm the bench there. As much as we admire James McAtee, the timing doesn’t seem to work for Newcastle.
