The five players that have played their last game for Newcastle United – as it stands

Given that contracts are expiring and a transfer transaction has already been initiated, Newcastle is now expected to lose a few players by the end of next month.

Players like Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, and Martin Dubravka have already signed new one-year contracts with the Magpies this season, and Sean Longstaff has a contract extension that runs until 2026.

Additionally, it was reported last week that Dan Burn had signed new terms that would extend his tenure at St. James’ Park until 2027.

Nonetheless, some athletes continue to face an uncertain future.

Callum Wilson – out of contract

After the final whistle blew last Sunday, Wilson seemed to say goodbye to the fans, but Howe hasn’t ruled out the 33-year-old staying.

“Well, let’s wait and see. We’re going to sit down and talk with his representatives.” “What I can say is Callum Wilson is and has been just an incredible footballer for Newcastle, someone who epitomizes the spirit that’s got us to where we are. Really professional, brave. I mean, to come here and be the number nine in the manner and the moment that he did in the club’s history, it was a difficult moment,” Howe explained. Newcastle has chosen not to trigger the 33-year-old’s one-year extension, instead beginning talks about a new contract that is slightly more incentive-based.

“Callum gave the club the hope they needed.” Unbelievably well, he led the line despite the strain and responsibility that come with that role. He is a leader in the changing room and infuses the group with positivity. Let’s wait and see what happens; he’s been amazing.

He’s someone I just greatly respect. I’ve witnessed his career’s setbacks as well as its triumphs and growth. “He’s never someone you’d want to lose from the group, but obviously there are challenges that we face as a football club. Financial challenges with PSR, with a whole host of different decisions to make. And that’s why I said, let’s wait and see what happens.” “It was great to see him have that relationship with the supporters. There’s still so much respect there between the two.”

John Ruddy – out of contract

After leaving Birmingham City on a free transfer last summer, Ruddy signed a one-year contract; he has yet to make an appearance in the first team, though that was always likely as a fourth-choice goalkeeper.

However, Howe might offer the 38-year-old a fresh contract in light of the beneficial contributions he has made behind the scenes. Howe stated in a February speech: “John has been outstanding behind the scenes. Everything we have asked him to do, he has embraced wholeheartedly. He’s at the kids’ games. He’s genuinely dedicated in trying to help people. “I’m confident that every player has applied his experience in some capacity. John has played a key role in our efforts this year.

Mark Gillespie – out of contract

As of September 2020, Gillespie has only made three appearances for Newcastle. Like Ruddy, however, Howe appreciates the goalie’s backstage work.

The 33-year-old has inked one-year contract extensions in the last two summers.

Lloyd Kelly – joining Juventus permanently

Kelly just joined Newcastle as a free agent last summer on a five-year agreement but after a limited amount of first-team games was loaned to Serie A giants Juventus in January. The agreement includes a £20million obligation to buy, which has already been triggered due to the 26-year-old making a set number of appearances.

Jamal Lewis – out of contract

Lewis was on loan at Brazilian powerhouse Sao Paulo for the first part of the season, but his stint was cut short after only six games due to an ankle injury that needed surgery.

The 27-year-old’s contract expires on June 30 and he is still injured. His most recent appearance was two years ago. Since signing from Norwich City for £15 million in 2020, he has made 36 appearances.
