TalkSPORT has learned that Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo are targets for Newcastle United.
The Magpies’ biggest summer targets are the Premier League pair.
The Magpies, who finished fifth in the Premier League and won the Carabao Cup, will play in the Champions League again after an incredible season under Eddie Howe. This season, Mbuemo was among the top flight’s most productive wingers. With a stellar record of 20 goals and seven assists for the London club, he played in all 38 of the Bees’ Premier League games. In the Premier League this season, only Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, and Mohamed Salah have scored more goals.
Manchester United has also taken notice of Mbuemo’s exceptional campaign and has already begun negotiations with the winger. The 25-year-old has only one year left on his contract, therefore Brentford will probably let him go in order to keep him from leaving on a free transfer. Promotion Mbeumo is valued at roughly £50 million by the Bees, and manager Thomas Frank has already made hints about the winger’s departure. “I can definitely understand the interest in him,” Frank replied.
He ought to pique curiosity. He has scored 20 goals and is at his peak age.
“We are a selling club, so if someone comes in with the right price, I would like to keep him.” Guehi, an England international, is another player the Magpies are becoming more interested in signing.
Newcastle withdrew from the talks in August after a final offer of about £65 million was rejected. Since Lloyd Kelly moved for Juventus in January on a loan that will become permanent during the summer, the team continues to need a center defender. Guehi is approaching the last 12 months of his contract, just like Mbuemo. In July 2021, Guehi transferred from Chelsea to Selhurst Park for an estimated £18 million. Crystal Palace has made several attempts to re-sign the defender, but talks have not yet succeeded.
Palace will face pressure to sell Guehi this summer in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer if he refuses to sign a new contract. When asked about his future at Crystal Palace following their FA Cup victory earlier this month, Guehi responded, “The most important thing is always doing the best I can for this football club.” “I try to be the same every day when I come in. I make an effort to work hard. “This football team has given me a lot, and because I still have a contract with them, I always give them my whole attention.
“Just doing my best and seeing what the future brings is what matters most.”
Paul Mitchell, Newcastle’s sports director, will depart the team at the end of next month, the club confirmed this week. Manager Howe will be in charge of hiring until a replacement is found after the 43-year-old leaves.
