AC Milan have officially confirmed that Igli Tare has taken over as the club’s new sporting director, with the appointment taking effect immediately.
The long-running saga is finally over — AC Milan have secured their man. The club has officially announced that Igli Tare has signed on as the new sporting director. In a statement released via the club’s website, the Albanian expressed his excitement and determination:
“Joining a club like Milan is a source of great pride and responsibility. I thank the club for entrusting me with this role. The club knows my great determination and my desire to do well by putting all my experience at the service of a great club that has the absolute objective of returning to being a protagonist in Italy and Europe.”
Tare’s name first surfaced in connection with the role last month following a meeting with CEO Giorgio Furlani. While things went quiet for a while as other options were considered, Milan’s leadership accelerated talks in the past week to finalize the appointment.
Tare arrives with a wealth of experience from a 15-year stint at Lazio, where he served under president Claudio Lotito. During his time there, the club won six trophies and made several standout signings, including Ciro Immobile, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Miroslav Klose, Luis Alberto, and Felipe Anderson.
Now at Milan, Tare faces a packed to-do list. His immediate tasks include finding a new head coach, resolving key player renewals, overseeing transfers, and managing sales. It promises to be a hectic summer, but he steps in refreshed and ready.
Before moving into management, Tare had a 15-year playing career with clubs such as Partizani, Karlsruhe, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Kaiserslautern, Brescia, Bologna, and Lazio. After retiring, he stayed at Lazio as team manager, completed a sporting director course, and officially took on that role in 2009.
