Jamie Carragher’s Premier League team of the season includes two players from Newcastle United.
Pundits are beginning to present their end-of-season accolades as the Premier League season comes to a close.
The fact that Lewis Hall was not nominated for young player of the season upset Newcastle supporters, although Eddie Howe and Alexander Isak are in the running for manager and player of the season. Both commentators included Alexander Isak in their selections, while the former Liverpool defender also selected a midfield player for Newcastle United.

Carragher selected Alexis Mac Allister, Declan Rice, and Sandro Tonali to play in his midfield. He acknowledged that he had the option of selecting Ryan Gravenberch of Liverpool, but he gave an explanation for his choice of the Magpies’ midfield virtuoso. “I chose Tonali because it appears that Newcastle will place third in the Premier League,” he stated.

“For a lot of the time he has been there, he has been the attacking midfielder and Bruno has been the holding. I think his shifting to the sitting midfield role has made a significant difference. “I could easily have put Gravenberch in there. I was discussing it. Newcastle’s dominance in the cup final was what turned the tide. They just ran over Liverpool, demonstrating how strong they appeared in midfield.

Carragher is absolutely correct in his assessment of Newcastle United. The campaign had a difficult start. Regarding outcomes and performances, there was no consistency at all. However, as Eddie Howe changed Tonali’s role, it started to change. Howe tested Tonali in the “six” during the Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea in October, after having previously played the Italian midfielder as a “eight.” Geordie Boot Boys called Tonali’s performance against Newcastle his greatest ever after the game. And that was only a hint of what lay next.
Howe and Bruno Guimaraes eventually switched places, and Howe waited until Tonali was healthy enough to play the part. Both players gave their greatest performances, with Bruno gaining greater clout after being granted more latitude. You may argue that Tonali has been Newcastle United’s best player ever since they switched positions. His running ability off the ball is nearly superhuman, and he is the orchestrator in front of the defense. After missing the majority of his first season through suspension, Tonali has eventually proven to be an amazing addition. He is deserving of his spot in Jamie Carragher’s squad.
