Pundits yelled for Anthony Gordon to be called up to the England squad because he was so good for Newcastle United every single week last season.
Naturally, Gareth Southgate gave him a chance in the end and even brought him to the Euros, where he only made four appearances. According to reports, he was preoccupied with rumors of a move to Liverpool, which kept him from playing while Newcastle attempted to raise money to meet PSR. Gordon reassured Newcastle supporters that he was totally focused on the team’s current objective after his comeback.
This season, Anthony Gordon has become a shadow of the person he used to be.
Gordon’s first few performances of the season left a lot to be desired but we gave him the benefit of the doubt, it had been a rough summer and after competing in the U21s Euros, the gruelling Newcastle season and then going to the Euros with England again, he’d not really had much time to rest in two years. The former Everton man managed a few decent performances that made us forget, he never really hit the heights of the previous season.
After that, Gordon was sent off in the FA Cup match against Brighton, and he was suspended, which prevented him from playing in the Carabao Cup final. Due to Harvey Barnes’ excellent play, he also suffered a setback when playing for his country around that time and found it difficult to return to Newcastle.
Some Newcastle supporters are beginning to think Gordon isn’t interested in staying.
Since then, he has been able to re-enter the team, playing with Harvey Barnes, but supporters don’t believe he is giving it his best. Gordon has received a lot of criticism this season for his bad body language, which gives the impression that he isn’t trying or doesn’t care. Even if his body language has been alarming, there are rumors that he is playing poorly in an attempt to force a trade away from Newcastle.
Gordon is approaching the situation incorrectly if he is attempting to make a move.
We don’t understand this; if he wants to force a move, he must make himself attractive to other clubs. Hanging your head and not trying hard won’t get him the big move he needs. We don’t know what’s going through a player’s mind, and it could be one of a million things that are keeping him preoccupied, but we don’t believe that he doesn’t want to be here any longer. If that’s the case, he’s approaching the situation incorrectly.
There are many of supporters still defending him, and it does seem to be the minority that think his head has been changed, but it was intriguing to observe, and we wanted to gather our readers’ perspectives. How do you feel about the season of Anthony Gordon?
