Ipswich star Cam Burgess earns surprise Australia call-up for crucial World Cup qualifiers.

Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess has earned a call-up to Australia’s squad for their decisive World Cup qualifiers next month.

The 29-year-old has made 18 Premier League appearances this season and already has 15 senior international caps, with his first call-up coming in September 2023.

Burgess returns to Tony Popovic’s squad for the final two Group C fixtures, as Australia push to secure a spot at next summer’s tournament in North America.

The Socceroos currently trail group leaders Japan and will host them in Perth on June 5th. They then face Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on June 10th — a clash with major qualification implications as only the top two sides advance automatically.

Burgess’ club future also remains in question, with his Ipswich contract expiring this summer and interest emerging from La Liga side Girona. Contract talks are ongoing.
