Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has urged the club to move on from injury-hit Luke Shaw and instead sign Brighton full-back Pervis Estupiñán. As United prepare for a major summer rebuild under new manager Rúben Amorim, Yorke believes Estupiñán would bring the energy and athleticism needed on the left flank.
Amorim stepped in after Erik ten Hag’s departure, inheriting a squad plagued by inconsistency and poor tactical adaptation.
Despite his efforts, United continue to falter, sitting a lowly 16th in the Premier League and pinning their hopes on winning the Europa League to salvage the season.
Yorke, speaking to FastSlots (via Metro), highlighted Estupiñán’s mobility and footballing IQ as ideal traits for Amorim’s setup. He pointed out Shaw’s ongoing injury struggles, stating it’s time the club made a decisive change on that side of the pitch.
Estupiñán, 27, is in peak form and has featured 35 times for Brighton this season, chipping in with a goal and an assist. While United already brought in Patrick Dorgu in January, Yorke sees Estupiñán as the perfect competition and rotation option for the left wing-back role.
However, with glaring weaknesses across the squad, United will need to prioritize their spending carefully. Amorim requires strategic additions that fit his style while offloading players who no longer serve the team’s direction.
