The Chiefs welcomed another playmaker from the SEC to their squad

Chiefs Drop Another Bag on Rookie Weapon for Patrick Mahomes.

With the 2025 NFL Draft behind them, Brent Veach and the Kansas City Chiefs’ front office are shifting their focus to the undrafted free agent market. From a talent standpoint, there are always contributors available on the free market who, for whatever reason, did not hear their name called during the seven rounds of picks made this weekend.

Former Texas A&M tight end Tre Watson was one of those players who chose to join the Chiefs over other clubs, and he received a sizable amount of guaranteed money in exchange. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, Watson will receive a $249,000 guarantee upon signing his camp contract with Kansas City.

Watson decided to move to College Station for his final year after playing for the Fresno State Bulldogs for three seasons. Over the course of 13 games, he caught 21 passes for 280 yards and a score, which was good for the SEC. Watson was just as successful in his three prior seasons at Fresno State, hauling in 56 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns.

It goes without saying that Watson is not guaranteed a spot on the final roster. It does, however, demonstrate that the Chiefs were sufficiently interested in him to be prepared to provide such a large guarantee in order to bring him into camp. This could be the path to a regular-season position with the reigning AFC Champions if Watson can impress the coaching staff once he takes the pitch.

In any case, the Chiefs are able to make this kind of low-risk, high-reward play because of the front office’s tireless efforts in assembling this squad up to this moment.
