Indianapolis picks up a big, speedy Big 12 running back.
The Indianapolis Colts added to their draft class on Saturday by selecting Kansas State running back DJ Giddens in the fifth round.
Giddens fits the Colts’ typical backup running back profile under head coach Shane Steichen—big, fast, and physical. It was widely expected that Indianapolis would draft another back, and after considering several options, they chose Giddens on Day 3. He’s set to compete with Khalil Herbert for the RB2 role behind Jonathan Taylor right away.
Giddens posted an impressive Relative Athletic Score, showcasing his strong North-South running style. Though not known for lateral agility, his straight-line power makes him a valuable addition. With Anthony Richardson, Jonathan Taylor, and Tyler Warren in the mix, Giddens could become a key goal-line weapon.
As the 2025 NFL Draft winds down, the Colts still have needs to address, including offensive line depth, defensive tackle, and possibly another quarterback. Stay tuned for the final picks.
