The saying “Misery loves company” seems to ring true, as West Ham fans are not alone in their frustration at this low point in the club’s history. Sitting just above the relegation zone, they have only been spared from relegation due to the worse form of the three teams below them.
Despite Brighton & Hove Albion sitting comfortably in 10th place with 48 points, their mood isn’t much brighter. The Seagulls are currently on a five-match winless streak, having fallen from European contention to mid-table mediocrity. This drop has disappointed their once-aspirational fans, who were hoping for much more just a few months ago.
Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, has responded to the growing discontent by sending a message to fans, urging them to support the team in their push for a European spot. Hurzeler has asked fans to direct their frustration towards him rather than the players, aiming to rekindle their enthusiasm for the remaining matches.
As West Ham prepares for this challenging fixture, they will face a strengthened Brighton side, with key players like defender Joel Veltman and Tariq Lamptey returning from injury. West Ham’s recent record against Brighton has been poor, with the Seagulls winning six and drawing eight of their last 15 encounters. However, West Ham can take solace in the hope of repeating last season’s 3-1 away victory on the south coast.
