Sandro Tonali debunks “nonsensical” transfer rumors about Newcastle United.

Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali has been rumored to return to Italy, but it’s not going to happen.

Ever since Sandro Tonali joined Newcastle United from AC Milan for £55 million, the Italian media has relentlessly pushed the narrative of his return to Serie A. But at this point, it’s become downright absurd.

Tonali’s transformation since December has been remarkable. His shift into the No.6 role has not only elevated his own game—especially after a lost first season due to a betting ban—but also re-energized Newcastle’s high-intensity style of play.

He’s been instrumental in recent wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace, showcasing just how vital he is to the team. Newcastle’s assistant coach Jason Tindall praised him as “outstanding,” highlighting Tonali’s vision, quick decision-making, and exceptional control on the ball.

While Tonali’s technical ability was never in doubt, his stamina and relentless work rate have now set him apart. As Italy coach Luciano Spalletti noted last year, Tonali plays at full throttle from start to finish—and we’re finally seeing what that really means.

Despite Italian media reports suggesting Newcastle could cash in on Tonali for £60–70 million, the idea of selling him is unrealistic. If anything, that valuation is laughably low. Right now, Tonali is one of Newcastle’s most irreplaceable players.

The bottom line? Tonali isn’t leaving. Any return to Italy will be for national team duty—nothing more.
