Eddie Howe urged to start ‘underappreciated’ player in every Newcastle match.

Eddie Howe faces a selection headache at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have named the same starting XI for five straight games—and it’s working. Eddie Howe’s side are on a five-match winning streak and are aiming to extend that run against Crystal Palace, with Jason Tindall expected to manage again as Howe recovers from pneumonia.

Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy are set to support Alexander Isak in attack. Barnes has been in fine form, scoring twice against Manchester United. However, his spot is now under pressure with Anthony Gordon returning from injury.

Some believe Murphy could make way for Gordon, but his strong performances suggest otherwise. That puts Barnes in a tricky spot, despite his recent impact.

Pundit Robbie Mustoe has called for Barnes to stay in the starting XI, saying he’s “underappreciated” and deserves more recognition. On the 2 Robbies Podcast, Mustoe praised Barnes as a powerful, creative winger who consistently delivers when given the chance.

Barnes has started five consecutive games since Gordon’s suspension, his longest run for Newcastle. In that stretch, he’s produced three goals and two assists, proving his value on the pitch.

With Newcastle pushing for Champions League qualification, Barnes’ current form makes a strong case for keeping him in the lineup—no matter who else is available.
