Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe stepped aside from selecting the team against Man United.
Newcastle United have placed Jason Tindall on standby for their upcoming match against Crystal Palace as Eddie Howe continues his recovery from illness. Although Howe watched the impressive 4-1 win over Manchester United from his sickbed, he is taking time to recover before returning to work. Preparations for the Palace game began immediately after the victory, with Tindall supported by Stephen Purchess, Simon Weatherstone, and Graeme Jones.
Tindall spoke about stepping into the role, emphasizing the differences when leading the team in Howe’s absence. He stated, “It’s always different when stepping in, but we’ve worked together for 17 years, so we know the expectations and demands.” He added that it was up to the players to take on board the preparations and deliver a strong performance, which they did.
Though Howe had brief contact with Tindall after the match via text, the medical staff have advised him to focus on recovering. Tindall clarified that Howe did not pick the team, saying, “The team probably picked itself with recent performances, but he trusted me and the staff to make the right decisions, and thankfully, that worked out.”
Tindall revealed that he began preparing to take charge after it became clear that Howe’s condition was more serious on Saturday. He said, “It was probably Saturday morning when it became obvious Howe wouldn’t be leading the team.” He will take the press conference on Tuesday and is preparing to lead the team against Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace. When asked if Howe would return for the game, Tindall replied, “Not sure, but we hope he’s back soon for everyone’s benefit.”
