Stoke City manager Mark Robins has commended in-form midfielder Lewis Baker as his contract with the club nears its end.
Stoke City initially loaned out Lewis Baker to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers when Steven Schumacher was in charge. The midfielder, previously with Chelsea, spent the season with Rovers but wasn’t a regular starter for much of his loan. However, he featured in the starting lineup for the final four matches before being recalled by Stoke.
By the time Baker returned, Narcis Pelach had already left, and Mark Robins took over as manager. Under Robins, Baker has been a key player for Stoke, contributing six goals and two assists in his last 10 matches. Robins has praised his ability, professionalism, and growing leadership role. He expressed his confidence in Baker’s talent, stating:
“I love the fact that he’s a top footballer, a great lad, and a top professional. When he’s feeling good, he can produce performances of the highest calibre. I’m really pleased that he’s stepping up, taking responsibility, and being one of our standout players.”
Although Robins didn’t directly comment on Baker’s contract situation, his words suggest a strong desire for the midfielder to stay. Baker’s contract expires at the end of the season, and with Stoke keen on his continued success, hopes are high that he’ll sign an extension.
Baker’s recent form has been crucial for Stoke, and his contribution will be vital in the upcoming match against Cardiff City. A win would give Stoke a valuable cushion above the relegation zone, but a loss could see them fall into the bottom three with only four games left in the season.
