The New York Giants were once in position to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, a late-season 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16 altered their trajectory. They finished the season 3-14, ultimately landing the third overall pick—potentially missing out on top quarterback prospect Cam Ward, who is projected to go first to the Tennessee Titans.
Still, the Giants could look to trade up. With the Cleveland Browns holding the No. 2 pick and their plans less clear, New York might see an opportunity to move up and grab a top-tier talent.
NFL insider Albert Breer reports that the Giants are interested in Travis Hunter, considered by many to be the best overall prospect in the draft. According to Breer, moving up one spot may only cost New York a third-, fourth-, and fifth-round pick—an unexpectedly modest price.
Breer explains that selecting Hunter would be a more versatile and immediate solution for the Giants, who need help at both cornerback and wide receiver—Hunter’s two positions. This is in contrast to linebacker Abdul Carter, a top defensive talent who could be redundant given the Giants’ investments in edge rushers Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
If Cleveland is content with either Carter or Hunter, sliding down one spot for additional draft capital could be appealing to them. For the Giants, securing Hunter could be a move that significantly upgrades two key areas of need at a reasonable cost.
