Crystal Palace have been advised to explore other options for the sporting director role due to ongoing controversy surrounding Tim Steidten.
Former West Ham senior scout Mick Brown has warned Crystal Palace against appointing Tim Steidten as their new sporting director, calling it a “disaster” for the club. Brown, who worked closely with David Moyes during Steidten’s tenure, cited the German’s controversial history at previous clubs, where his clashes with managers led to their dismissals.
Steidten was instrumental in the departures of both Moyes and Julen Lopetegui at West Ham. After Dougie Freedman’s exit from Palace, the club began its search for a new director of football, with Steidten reportedly in pole position for the role.
However, Brown raised concerns about Steidten’s track record at Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen, and West Ham, warning Palace to look elsewhere. He emphasized that Steidten’s lack of managerial support and interference led to negative outcomes at all three clubs.
Brown criticized Steidten for his agent-driven appointments and his failure to contribute positively to team management. He claimed that Steidten’s influence ultimately led to the sacking of two managers and suggested that his appointment at Palace would be a significant mistake.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace is also focused on securing a long-term contract for manager Oliver Glasner, with talks reportedly progressing, despite speculation about his future following RB Leipzig’s managerial change.
