Giants’ Draft Plan: QB in Round 1 No Secret

The New York Giants have made key moves at quarterback, keeping their options open for the future. They signed Jameis Winston as a backup for the next two seasons and brought in Russell Wilson as a steady starter. These moves give general manager Joe Schoen the flexibility to either select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders or one of the top non-quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft. At No. 3 overall, New York could also consider Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter.

Despite their recent signings, the Giants remain heavily linked to Sanders. Reports indicate they have shown more interest in him than Miami’s Cam Ward, with visits and scouting efforts making their admiration for the Colorado QB the “worst-kept secret” in the league. ESPN’s Matt Miller shed light on the team’s intentions, citing a scout who claimed, “New York loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now.” The Giants reportedly had a presence at every Colorado home game this season.

New York’s signings of Wilson and Winston remove immediate pressure to draft a quarterback. However, if they are truly set on Sanders, they could select him at No. 3 and give him a redshirt year to develop. While unusual for a highly touted prospect like Sanders, his polished skill set gives him a higher perceived floor than other quarterback options.

Regardless of their final decision, the Giants’ rumored interest in Sanders will keep draft speculation alive. With weeks remaining before the draft, Schoen’s options remain open, fueling anticipation among fans as the countdown to April continues.
