Former Fulham defender Philippe Senderos believes Marco Silva’s leadership has brought much-needed stability, making the club genuine contenders for silverware. Fulham faces Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarter-finals, and Senderos credits Silva’s consistent vision for the team’s progress. Since taking charge in 2021, Silva guided Fulham back to the Premier League, securing a third consecutive top-flight season while keeping them within reach of the Champions League spots.
Fulham also made a deep run in the EFL Cup last season, narrowly missing the final after a tough semi-final against Liverpool. Senderos praised Silva’s ability to maintain stability, a rare trait at the highest level. He emphasized the importance of club backing, ensuring realistic expectations and long-term planning. Amid speculation linking Silva to Tottenham, Senderos acknowledged the nature of football but hopes Fulham continues to support their manager.
Senderos also highlighted the physical challenge awaiting Fulham’s defense, particularly against Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The French forward, who caused an own goal in their last meeting, is set to return after a minor injury. Senderos warned that Fulham’s center-backs, Calvin Bassey and Joachim Andersen, must be prepared for an intense battle against Mateta’s strength and technical ability.
Historically, Palace has been strong at Craven Cottage, remaining unbeaten in their last six visits. However, Senderos sees this as a chance for Fulham to avenge their recent league defeat and secure a historic FA Cup semi-final spot.
Reflecting on Fulham’s squad, Senderos pointed out Andersen’s importance in the backline, especially in helping Bassey adapt to the Premier League. Having played for Fulham himself, Senderos remains hopeful that his former club will continue their upward trajectory and claim victory in the upcoming clash.
