Southampton face the risk of another Charly Alcaraz-style transfer.

Juventus are now eyeing Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes as a replacement for Charly Alcaraz. Having already lost Alcaraz, Southampton will be keen to avoid a repeat scenario.

Fabrizio Romano recently updated Southampton fans on Charly Alcaraz’s career progress. While the Saints were pleased to see the midfielder escape relegation, they won’t want history to repeat itself.

Alcaraz’s struggles under Russell Martin began when Southampton dropped to the Championship, a setback for his European ambitions. When Juventus came calling last year, the Argentine wasted no time accepting the move. After that, a return to St. Mary’s never appealed to him, leading to his permanent departure.

Mateus Fernandes linked with Alcaraz-style transfer
Now, his summer replacement, Mateus Fernandes, could follow a similar path. According to Bianconera News, Juventus are considering adding him to their youth-heavy squad.

Southampton must now weigh the pros and cons of this potential deal, especially since their transfer strategy has focused on maximizing fees, as seen with Dibling’s departure.

A club of Juventus’ stature will inevitably attract Fernandes, and he may push for a move. However, unless the Italian giants offer significantly more than Southampton’s initial investment, a deal remains unlikely.

As for a loan, Alcaraz’s unsuccessful stint could make Southampton hesitant to repeat the situation with Fernandes. It now remains to be seen whether Juventus will sweeten the offer enough to convince the Saints to agree.
