Hirst and Taylor Earn International Call-Ups

George Hirst and Jack Taylor came off the bench to earn international caps tonight, experiencing vastly different outcomes with their respective teams.

Jack Taylor earned his third international cap after coming on in the 82nd minute as the Republic of Ireland secured a 2-1 win over Bulgaria in Dublin. The victory sealed a 4-2 aggregate triumph, ensuring Ireland retained their UEFA Nations League B status. His teammate Dara O’Shea remained an unused substitute.

Meanwhile, George Hirst was introduced just after halftime as Scotland suffered a 3-0 defeat to Greece at Hampden Park. Despite holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Piraeus, the Scots were overpowered, resulting in a 3-1 aggregate loss.

Hirst, earning his second cap, received a booking for dissent, while Town goalkeeper Cieran Slicker remained on the bench. Scotland’s defeat means they drop into Nations League B for the next campaign.
