Avery Williams may be new to the Philadelphia Eagles, but he quickly recognized an opportunity to make an impact. With the Eagles’ special teams weakened last season due to Britain Covey’s injury struggles, Williams believes he can fill the void. Covey, the team’s primary punt returner, missed most of the year, forcing the Eagles to rely on rookie Cooper DeJean. While DeJean performed well, his growing role on defense meant the team preferred to limit his return duties. This is where Williams hopes to step in and contribute to another Super Bowl run in 2025.
“I’m excited,” Williams said. “The fact that the Eagles just went to the Super Bowl is impressive, but I still have the hunger to add to that. I wasn’t part of this team last year, so my goal is still to win a Super Bowl. The guys here have already done it, and their goal is to win another. I’m extremely motivated, excited, and grateful to be here and call myself an Eagle now.”
Williams, formerly with the Atlanta Falcons, has been one of the league’s most consistent returners in recent years. The Boise State alum is aiming for a fair shot with the Eagles. If he can deliver production similar to Covey when healthy, the Eagles’ special teams will be even stronger heading into the 2025 season.
