Bruno Guimaraes suspended, Joelinton criticized by Brazil media in ‘grim’ night for Newcastle duo.

Newcastle United’s Brazilian stars faced a harsh reality check as their Carabao Cup triumph was overshadowed by a disappointing night.

Bruno Guimarães Suspended, Joelinton Criticized in Tough Night for Newcastle Duo

Newcastle United’s Brazilian stars, Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, faced a challenging international break after their Carabao Cup celebrations. While Brazil secured a dramatic 2-1 win over Colombia in a World Cup qualifier, thanks to a late Vinícius Júnior goal, the Newcastle duo struggled to replicate their club form on the international stage.

Bruno Guimarães’ Suspension

Guimarães started the match and played 78 minutes but received a yellow card in the 16th minute, his fourth of the qualifying campaign. This booking rules him out of Brazil’s crucial clash against Argentina later this week.

On Instagram, Guimarães expressed his disappointment, writing, “Sad to be out of the next game, but for sure I will be a fan of our national team.” The suspension means he’ll have 12 days to rest before Newcastle’s Premier League match against Brentford on April 2.

Joelinton’s Struggles

Joelinton replaced the injured Gerson in the 28th minute but had a night to forget. He was caught in possession leading to Luis Díaz’s equalizer and received a yellow card. Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte rated his performance a 4/10, criticizing his defensive lapses and late challenges.

Despite the win, Brazil’s World Cup qualifying campaign has been inconsistent, and the pressure is mounting ahead of their match against Argentina. Joelinton will be eager to redeem himself, while Guimarães will watch from the sidelines.
