Dolphins’ Zach Wilson Aims to Rewrite Career After ‘Challenging’ Jets Stint
Zach Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick, is looking to revive his career with the Miami Dolphins after a rocky three-year tenure with the New York Jets. Reflecting on his time in New York, Wilson described it as “challenging” but emphasized that it’s all part of his journey.
“There’s things, looking back, I wish I could’ve done better,” Wilson said on the Dolphins’ Drive Time Podcast. “But it’s all part of the story. Learning from those hard times is what got me here, and I hope to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Wilson’s time with the Jets was marked by struggles, including a 3-10 record as a rookie and inconsistent performances. After Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury in 2023, Wilson was thrust into the spotlight but eventually benched. A brief stint with the Denver Broncos in 2024 allowed him to recalibrate under Sean Payton, but playing time remained elusive.
Now, as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup in Miami, Wilson is optimistic about his fit in Mike McDaniel’s explosive offense, featuring stars like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. “It’s going to be a great fit,” Wilson said. “The offense is explosive, and Coach does a great job tailoring it to the players’ strengths.”
While Wilson may see limited action if Tagovailoa stays healthy, an injury could open the door for the next chapter of his career. If history is any guide—following the revivals of Geno Smith and Sam Darnold—Wilson’s story could take a positive turn.
