Texas Longhorns Add Matt Moran as Special Teams Analyst

The Texas Longhorns have made another change to their coaching staff, hiring Matt Moran as the new Special Teams Analyst. Moran brings a wealth of experience, having spent nearly a decade with Stanford as a special teams graduate assistant after starting his career as a defensive quality control assistant at Rutgers. He also served as the Special Teams Assistant Coach at James Madison during the 2024-25 season.

Moran expressed his excitement about joining the Longhorns, stating, “So excited to announce I have accepted a position as Special Teams Analyst for the University of Texas! Excited for the opportunity to come to Austin & be a part of the tradition!”

A versatile athlete during his college years, Moran played multiple positions—wide receiver, free safety, punter, kick returner, and even quarterback—for Bowdoin College’s Polar Bears. He was named to the 2009 NESCAC Academic All-Conference team and later gained coaching experience at Bowdoin, Albright College (PA), and the University of San Diego.

While details of Moran’s contract with Texas remain undisclosed, head coach Steve Sarkisian has yet to publicly comment on the hire. The Longhorns will kick off their 2025 season with a high-profile non-conference game against Ohio State in Columbus, followed by their SEC opener against Florida on October 4.
