Premier League winner blasts ‘fearful’ Leicester City and criticizes transfer decisions.

Leicester City icon Marc Albrighton doubts the Foxes’ chances of staying up.

Leicester City’s Survival Hopes Fade as Legend Marc Albrighton Voices Doubts

With seven consecutive defeats, even the most hopeful Leicester City fans are finding it hard to believe the team can stage a miraculous turnaround and pull off one of the Premier League’s greatest escapes. Club legend Marc Albrighton has echoed the concerns of many critics, admitting the situation “is not looking great” for the Foxes.

The Premier League winner, who played a key role in Leicester’s historic successes, now struggles to see a way out of the team’s dismal form. Reflecting on the season, Albrighton called himself “naive” for initially believing they could avoid relegation. Leicester currently sit 19th, nine points from safety, after their weekend loss to Manchester United marked their 13th defeat in 14 games. Despite the grim outlook, manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has vowed to fight until the end, stating, “As long as there’s a mathematical possibility, we’ll keep doing our jobs. We won’t give up.”

Albrighton’s Concerns and Criticism of Transfers

Albrighton, however, is far less optimistic. When asked if relegation could be confirmed before crucial matches against Wolves and Southampton, he replied, “Yeah, it’s not looking great. Recent performances suggest they’re not going to improve.” He believes the team lacks confidence, with players opting for safe passes and showing hesitation in defense. “Defensively, they’re scared to commit to tackles. They’re standing off attackers, giving them free shots, and that’s where goals come from,” he explained.

The former winger also criticized the club’s transfer strategy, arguing that new signings have failed to make an impact. “They’re either sitting on the bench or at home watching the game,” he said. Albrighton pointed to the departure of Enzo Maresca as a turning point, with the team struggling to adapt from Maresca’s possession-based style to Steve Cooper’s more direct approach.

Former Players Agree on Leicester’s Struggles

Former Manchester United defender Phil Jones echoed Albrighton’s concerns, stating, “It’s not quite worked. They haven’t strengthened enough, and some of the players look completely deflated.” While acknowledging that “stranger things have happened,” Jones admitted that Leicester’s survival now seems “increasingly unlikely.”

As the Foxes face an uphill battle to avoid the drop, the words of their former heroes highlight the growing sense of despair surrounding the club. With tough fixtures ahead, Leicester’s fight for survival appears to be slipping away.
