Ipswich Town eye prolific 213-goal striker as free replacement for Liam Delap

Ipswich Town are targeting a proven goalscorer as a potential replacement for star striker Liam Delap.

Delap in Demand as Ipswich Battle Relegation
The Tractor Boys’ long-awaited return to the Premier League has been challenging for Kieran McKenna’s side, despite heavy investment in the summer and winter transfer windows. Currently in the relegation zone alongside Leicester City and Southampton, Ipswich are facing the possibility of an immediate drop back to the Championship.

One player who could remain in the top flight regardless of Ipswich’s fate is Delap. The 22-year-old, signed from Manchester City last summer, has impressed with 10 Premier League goals and two assists in 27 games. His performances have attracted interest from clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea, with Ipswich valuing him at £60 million.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Delap’s future lies away from Portman Road if the club is relegated. “Ipswich will do very well to hold on to him. If they don’t survive in the Premier League, you can’t see his future being there,” he said. “He’s a pest, always running the channels, putting defenders under pressure, and winning crucial fouls. He is a top, top player.”

If Delap departs, Ipswich will need a new talisman—and they may already have a target in mind.

Ipswich Eye Shankland as Free Transfer
Speaking to Sunderland AFC News, reporter Graeme Bailey revealed that Ipswich are interested in signing Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland as a potential replacement for Delap.

“He is a free transfer… Ipswich clearly see him as some sort of Liam Delap replacement, but Sunderland are also keen,” Bailey said. “There are multiple clubs in for him, and he has a strong desire to play in England, so let’s see if he gets his wish.”

Shankland’s Career and Stats
Shankland, who has scored 213 career goals, is set to become a free agent when his Hearts contract expires in May. The 29-year-old has primarily played in Scotland, with a brief stint in Belgium at Beerschot. A move to Portman Road could now be on the horizon as Ipswich prepare for life after Delap.
