Liverpool are preparing for a squad overhaul, with key players like Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota expected to leave, as exclusively reported by Anfield Watch. Their departures would create a need for Premier League-ready replacements who can immediately contribute to the starting lineup.
Among the many names linked with a move to Anfield, one standout is Anthony Gordon. Now, Newcastle have all but confirmed his exit as they search for a potential replacement.
Newcastle Eyeing Gordon Replacement
According to Football Insider, Newcastle are pursuing Serie A prospect Assane Diao. The 19-year-old, who joined Como in January, has already netted five goals in 10 appearances. Although not a direct replacement for Gordon, Diao has the versatility to play across the front line, including Gordon’s favored left-wing position.
Como reportedly paid €12 million for Diao, meaning Newcastle would likely have to make a significant offer to secure his services. To fund their summer business, selling Gordon may become a necessity.
Gordon to Liverpool?
Despite his Everton roots, Gordon has long been linked with a move to Liverpool. The Reds were reportedly interested last summer when Díaz’s future was uncertain, and with Barcelona now circling the Colombian for a potential £75 million move, Liverpool could once again turn to Gordon.
Newcastle would likely demand a similar fee for Gordon, but his sale could hinge on the future of Alexander Isak. If Liverpool also push for Isak, Newcastle may be hesitant to lose two of their top attacking talents in the same window.
While Newcastle’s pursuit of Diao isn’t official confirmation of Gordon’s departure, it’s a strong signal that a major summer move could be on the horizon. Liverpool’s recruitment team will undoubtedly be monitoring the situation closely.
