Graham Potter pushed West Ham United players through intense training at Rush Green on Friday.
Graham Potter is already making his mark at West Ham, and his training methods are starting to show results on the pitch. The team’s style of play has improved significantly, and positive results are following.
Potter has always emphasized the need for balance at West Ham to ensure real progress. While new signings will be crucial in the summer, the 49-year-old must also maximize the potential of his current squad.
One player struggling to find his form is Evan Ferguson, and his recent training ground clash has raised concerns.
Potter Faces Big Decision on Ferguson After Training Ground Incident
Ferguson arrived at West Ham on loan from Brighton on deadline day but has yet to make an impact. The 20-year-old striker has struggled in his early appearances, and reports suggest the Hammers are unlikely to sign him permanently.
Despite club captain Jarrod Bowen being a fan of Ferguson, his performances so far have been underwhelming. A recent training video from Rush Green captured him clashing with Konstantinos Mavropanos, highlighting his struggles.
In the footage, Ferguson reacted slowly to a pass from Lucas Paqueta, took a poor first touch, and was physically dominated by Mavropanos. The Greek defender, widely regarded as West Ham’s weakest centre-back, easily outmuscled the young striker—raising further doubts about Ferguson’s readiness.
Ferguson’s Future at West Ham in Doubt
With just 11 Premier League games left, Ferguson is still far from full match sharpness. This raises the question of why Potter brought him in at all.
While Ferguson impressed at Brighton in the 2022/23 season, his form has dipped dramatically since. His loan deal includes no obligation to buy, minimizing West Ham’s risk, but his performances so far suggest Potter may have made a misstep.
If Ferguson is the only striker West Ham bring in this summer, it would be a major disappointment. The club will need to reassess their attacking options to ensure they remain competitive.
