West Ham Should Reconsider Angel Gomes Bid After Disappointing Debut

West Ham target Angel Gomes has yet to make a decision on his next destination as his Lille contract approaches its summer expiration.

The England midfielder is currently eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of France, but sources indicate he is holding off, waiting to see if a particular club expresses interest.

At the moment, Gomes has five offers, including ones from West Ham, Fulham, and three other unnamed clubs. Despite the interest, he is in no rush to commit. His representatives—comprising family members and close friends—are expected to intensify discussions next week.

West Ham initially reached out to Gomes through a third party during the transfer window, but Claret & Hugh reports that their offer fell significantly short of expectations.

Gomes’ main representative is his brother, while his father, Gil—who played under-21 football for Portugal and ended his career at Salford—remains involved in the process. It is understood that the family plans to bring in an intermediary to finalize contract negotiations with his eventual club.

If West Ham hopes to secure the talented midfielder, they must completely overhaul their negotiation approach. Their initial offer reportedly left a poor impression, to say the least.

However, that bid was made before Graham Potter took charge as manager. Any future approach will need to align with Potter’s vision, as he is keen to bring Gomes to the London Stadium.
