Aaron Ramsdale keen on Chelsea move with promise of starting role

Chelsea are set to pursue Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale this summer as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that Aaron Ramsdale is eager to join Chelsea this summer. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Brown stated that the 26-year-old goalkeeper is eyeing a move to Stamford Bridge, especially if Southampton face relegation.

Ramsdale reportedly has a release clause that could allow him to leave if Southampton drop to the Championship. With a potential squad overhaul at St Mary’s, he is determined to stay in the Premier League and secure regular game time. Chelsea, led by Enzo Maresca, have emerged as strong contenders for his signature.

Chelsea are prioritizing a new goalkeeper this summer due to concerns over Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen’s performances. On February 18, Football Insider reported that Chelsea are interested in Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher and are willing to meet his £40 million price tag. Now, Ramsdale has surfaced as another key target for the Blues.

Brown explained that Chelsea are actively exploring their options but face a challenge in finding top-class goalkeepers. He noted that Arsenal opted to replace Ramsdale with David Raya, yet Chelsea see the England international as a potential upgrade to their current goalkeeping lineup. While Brown remains unsure if Ramsdale is truly world-class, he believes Chelsea are convinced of his quality and willingness to offer him a first-team role.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation remains uncertain. Kepa Arrizabalaga, currently on loan at Bournemouth, has impressed and is reportedly keen to stay rather than return to Stamford Bridge. With Sanchez and Jorgensen struggling for consistency, Chelsea’s pursuit of a new No.1 is gaining momentum.
